Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions

Will FreezeCap™ work on my vehicle?

FreezeCap™ works on most vehicles made after 1994. We offer two versions:

  • R-134a version: Fits most vehicles from 1994–2020
  • R-1234yf version: Fits most vehicles from 2015 and newer

Not sure which refrigerant your vehicle uses? Check your owner's manual or look for a label under the hood near the A/C components. Still unsure? Email us your year, make, and model and we'll help you figure it out.

How do I know if my A/C leak is at the service port?

Try the "hiss test": Remove the factory plastic cap from your service port and listen carefully. If you hear a brief hissing sound, that's refrigerant escaping from around the Schrader valve. This is exactly the type of leak FreezeCap™ is designed to seal.

Service port valve leaks account for roughly 40 to 60% of all slow A/C refrigerant leaks. If you've been topping off refrigerant repeatedly, there's a good chance the port is the culprit.

What if FreezeCap™ doesn't fix my leak?

FreezeCap™ specifically seals service port valve leaks. If your leak is elsewhere in the system (compressor, condenser, evaporator, or hoses), FreezeCap™ won't solve it.

The good news: by ruling out the port, you've gained valuable diagnostic information. You now know the leak is further in the system, which helps a mechanic pinpoint the issue faster.

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If FreezeCap™ doesn't work for your situation, contact us for a refund.

How long does shipping take?

Processing: Orders typically ship within 1 business day.

Delivery: 2–5 business days for standard shipping within the continental US.

You'll receive an email with tracking information once your order ships.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. FreezeCap™ comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects and a 30-day money-back guarantee if it doesn't solve your port leak.

If you have any issues, email support@freezecap.com and we'll make it right.

Can I install FreezeCap™ myself?

Yes. FreezeCap™ installs in under 30 seconds with no tools. It snaps onto your service port and seals with a hand-tightened dial.

That said, we recommend wearing safety glasses and gloves as a precaution. For best practice, an EPA §609-certified A/C technician can perform the install, but most car owners do it themselves without any issues.

See our step-by-step installation guide for full instructions.

Is FreezeCap™ a permanent fix?

FreezeCap™ can serve as either a temporary or long-term solution depending on your situation. Many customers use it as a permanent fix for slow port valve leaks. Others use it to get through a season before deciding on further repairs.

The cap is designed to withstand normal A/C system pressures and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Do I need to add refrigerant after installing FreezeCap™?

It depends on how much refrigerant has already leaked from your system. If your A/C is still blowing somewhat cold, installing FreezeCap™ may be enough to stop further loss.

If your system is already low or empty, you'll need to recharge it after installing FreezeCap™. Many auto parts stores sell DIY recharge kits, or a shop can perform a professional recharge for $150–$300.
